Building Your “Dream Team”

Every June, college baseball fans start to predict who will head to Omaha and the College World Series. It’s easy to look at rankings to inform your guess, but the top eight seeds have never advanced to the CWS. However, those who do make it share a common thread among their rosters.

They are built with intention.

It’s not just about having the hardest throwers or the biggest bats. It’s about how the pieces come together: depth in the bullpen, defensive consistency, veteran leadership, and of course, the transfer portal. The list could go on.

With Kentucky’s baseball program, that balance becomes even more important in the hyper-competitive SEC. When you’re regularly facing top prospects across every position, that makes it even more important to put together a roster that can compete with the best. In the offseason, coaches are identifying the right mix of players who fit the system, buy into the culture, and focus on getting better with each game. That’s what turns a good team in March into a dangerous one in June.
