We CAN Care

Unified Group Services and its employees certainly do care and one of the things they care about is feeding the hungry in Central Indiana. For the 2011 East Central Indiana Second Harvest Food Bank Fund Drive, the fundraising committee set a goal to collect $200 and 200 cans. To their delight, the employees far exceeded that goal. They collected $578.40 in cash and 292 cans! Additionally, Unified matched the employees’ contributions and gave an additional $600, bringing the cash contribution total to $1178.40!

The money was raised through both direct contributions and a few fundraising activities. The small committee, made up of Mary Ann Owens, Kem Goettman, and Pat Storm, planned the events but many Unified employees volunteered their help.

The first activity was a casual day on April 5. Employees could contribute $1 or 2 can goods to dress in casual clothes that day. With a gift card, donated by Meijer, an Easter Basket and a Gardening Basket were put together with raffle tickets sold for $1 for one ticket, 6 tickets for $5 or 20 tickets for $10 to employees. They also raffled off a floral bouquet donated by Middletown Floral but this time the raffle tickets were sold for cans of food.

The biggest event was a “Spuds and Suds” luncheon. Thanks to the generosity of several businesses and individuals, nearly 100% of the $5.00 lunch fee and the $1 dessert fee went to Second Harvest Food Bank. Thanks goes out to Culver’s for the Root Beer, Fazoli’s for the cutlery, Gene’s Root Beer for the chili sauce, Marsh Supermarkets for a gift certificate, Pay Less Super Markets for a gift certificate to purchase the potatoes, and Wendy’s for cups. Thanks also go to Unified employees who provided desserts or lunch items: Debbie Allen, Brenda Fedor, Ron Harless, Hillery Holt, Sue McNabb, Jamie Rhodus, Betsy Sachse-Baxter, Jo Scott, and Pat Storm.
