Unified Celebrates 15th Anniversary

On February 1st, 2011, Unified Group Services celebrates its 15th anniversary. This is a substantial milestone for a company that had humble beginnings in the sun room of owner and president, Rich Mousty. Rich and executive vice-president and co-founder, Faith Hailey, started the business in 1996. Recognition of declining customer service in the company where they were working spurred their decision to begin Unified Group Services. One by one, former and new customers sought their services.

The business quickly grew and relocated to an office building in Pendleton, Indiana. Just seven years later, the company had outgrown this facility and was able to purchase, remodel, and move to its current facility at 3131 E 67th Street in Anderson, Indiana. Growth continued and in 2008, the company added an additional 9,000 square feet to the building to accommodate current and future growth. Unified now has approximately 130 clients in 30 states and processes over $370 million in health care claims. The two-person employee team has expanded to nearly 100 employees.

“When we started this company, I wanted to get back to the basics. We believe that when a member calls with a benefits question they deserve to speak to a person and not an automated voice prompter,” says Mousty. “We have been able to maintain that delicate balance between great customer service, growth, and new technology.” And new technology is a driving force in the business. Unified is portrayed as a business ahead of its competition through initiatives like an online benefits manager, medical claims management, online wellness tools, and wellness programs. Unified was the first third party administrator to participate in the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE)’s Quality Health First (QHF) program, which helps physicians and patients achieve better health outcomes and helps reduce the overall cost of care.

Mousty contributes the company’s success to its customers and employees. “We are very fortunate and blessed to have so many loyal customers.” Unified still has their very first customer, Hillcroft Services in Muncie, IN. “And, our employees are second to none. Without their hard work and outstanding service, none of this would be possible,” says Mousty. Management believes that every employee is important and is committed to cultivating long-term relationships with each one.

It is through their valued employees that good customer service is delivered, the core value of their success. The company believes that personal contact, in an industry that thrives on automated attendants, is the driving force behind their achievements. Unified likes to conduct modern business in an old fashioned way, with the personal touch of receptionists answering the phones and a dedicated account manager for each client. Additionally, Rich is actively involved in the day-to-day activities of the company and welcomes clients to call and personally speak with him.

Mousty wants to continue to grow Unified’s business, but he has no plans of leaving the greater Anderson area, where he grew up. “This is where we have our roots,” he said. “We’re not going anywhere. This community means a lot to me. I can’t imagine being anywhere else.”

Unified Group Services, Inc. is a Third Party Administrator (TPA) for self-funded group health plans. As a full-service administrator, Unified Group Services offers a broad range of services including but not limited to: Medical, Dental, Vision, COBRA/HIPAA, Section 125 (FSA), HRA, Health Savings Account (HSA), and Short-term Disability administration.

Since its inception, Unified has been recognized with several awards. Rich strongly believes that each award and recognition is a special tribute to the employees’ dedication and the solid foundation on which the company was founded.
